Jack London i jego burzliwe życie

Życie autora „Białego Kła” było niezwykle barwne. London przyszedł na świat w 1876 roku w San Francisco jako syn Flory Wellman i H.W. Chaneya. Nazwisko, pod którym jest znany, przyjął od ojczyma. Od wczesnej młodości zarabiał na życie, podejmując się najróżniejszych prac. Był między innymi gazeciarzem, kłusownikiem, marynarzem, poszukiwaczem złota i reporterem. W czasie pracy jako korespondent wojenny relacjonował wojnę domową w Meksyku oraz konflikt rosyjsko-japoński w 1905 roku.

Jack London czerpał swoje inspiracje z idei Marksa, Darwina, Nietzschego i Spencera. W swoich poglądach łączył socjalizm z teorią walki o byt, a także uznaniem dla pełnych siły jednostek.
