Autor publikacji podjął próbę interpretacji stosunku biskupa polowego Józefa Gawliny do Żydów w świetle ówczesnych warunków dziejowych. Dzięki przeprowadzonym badaniom udało się wskazać, że bp Gawlina był oddanym polskim patriotą, który pomimo antyżydowskich (a nie antysemickich) poglądów uratował wielu Żydów w czasie II wojny światowej.
