Emily Wilde, a young professor at Cambridge University, arrives on a remote northern island to study the local fae (or rather, local legends about them, because everyone knows that fae are dangerous and very few people are lucky to meet them in person). A brilliant scientist, a meticulous researcher, a leading expert in dryadology, she has one drawback - she is completely unable to get along with people. And she risks being surrounded by unfriendly locals for the whole winter. On top of that, her research is about to be interfered with by a rival colleague, a charming and charismatic but not always honest scientist, Wendell Bambi.
