Venice, 1704. In this city of dazzling splendor, despair and poverty are always close at hand. Eight-year-old Anna Maria is one of three hundred girls growing up within the walls of the Pieta, a shelter for children born to prostitutes. Despite the strict rules, the girls are given singing and music lessons from an early age. From childhood, Anna Maria knows that she is not like everyone else. Gifted and obsessed, she aspires to become the most outstanding violinist in Venice. Her chances are slim, but the girl seizes every opportunity. When maestro Antonio Vivaldi chooses Anna-Maria as his star pupil, she must do everything she can to please the difficult genius and fulfill her dream.
